The penetration of smartphones in the American marketplace continues to gain momentum. The Pew Internet Project's first standalone report on smartphones finds that over one third of American adults — 35%, to be precise — now have smartphones.
Additional findings include:
- 87% of smartphone owners access the internet or email on their handheld; 68% do so on a typical day
- 25% of smartphone owners cited their phone rather than a computer as their principal means of accessing the Internet.
